Easy Halloween Makeup Tutorial: Harry Potter 'Bellatrix Lestrange' Inspired Look

With the final instalment of Harry Potter coming out in theatres earlier this summer, we won't be surprised if we see a ton of witches, wizards and warlocks roaming the streets this Halloween! We decided to try our hand at creating a Harry Potter inspired 'Bellatrix Lestrange' halloween look. This is a great idea for anyone who still hasn't found a costume yet because it is very easy and can be done with item you probably already have at home.

We've created a chart below with guidelines for creating this look. In general, there aren't any colour rules but use dark tones of browns, greys and blacks. Remember to have fun with this look. A good rule of thumb for creating this face is- if it makes you look crazy, do it.

Contouring is key for Bellatrix, she always looks tired and verging on insanity so go wild with under eye circles and contouring your cheeks. Mandy did a great tutorial on contouring your face, check it out here for some tips and tricks.

We liked using Coastal Scents Blush and Contour Palette (US$18.95) Joe Fresh Eye Shadow in Black (C$4.00) and Mary Kay Lip Suede in Plum (C$16.50), lined with some black eyeliner for the lips.

Like Bellatrix, our model Alexandra already has pretty crazy curly hair so she gave a good coat of TIGI Catwalk Sessions Salt Spray (US$14.98) then scrunched her curls a bit. Then she gave herself a deep side part and dusted some baby powder near her roots to imitate Bellatrix's grey streak.

To make sure your hair stays in place, give it a once over with some hairspray, paying special attention to your roots. You can also flip your hair upside down and spray your roots at the back for extra lift. For a Bellatrix costume, you can do no wrong with black! A long black skirt and long sleeve shirt will do you just fine but if you have some leather and gloves on hand, wear those too.

You're finished and ready to cast a spell on any muggle!

How will you be dressing up for Halloween?

@mamaluv You're sweet but you should see the pictures of just the contouring with no makeup.... NOT pretty. I looked like a crazy person.
