Holiday Eye Make Up Tutorial: 1 Palette + 3 Looks to Take You From Day to Night

As a devout beauty junkie, the holiday season is a very exciting time. I love all the dressing up (any excuse to wear sequins and glitter…right?), the great food, amazing company and most of all, all the new holiday beauty products and palettes that come out around this time of year.

Not only do Holiday Beauty Kits and Palettes make perfect gifts, they’re also such a steal! I also love how you get to try a variety of shades and products and most of them come nicely package so you can tote them around. Here, We used Smashbox’s Click You’re It Palette that has 1 eyeshadow primer, 15 eyeshadows and 5 eyeliners. Using this extensive palette, we’re going to show you 3 simple holiday eye make up looks that’ll take you from the office, to family gatherings to holiday parties in a flash!

Here are the products you’ll need:
(from left) Smashbox Click You're It Palette (US$40.00), Mary Kay Filigree Eye and Cheek Powder in Stunning (C$22.00), Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash (US$22.00), Make Up Forever Lab Shine Star Collection in S4 (C$20.00)

Prepping your face:
As always, start off with a fresh canvas. Use your favorite foundation and concealer and finish off with a dusting of loose powder. Here we used a rosy blush on the cheeks that’ll suit all three of the eye make up looks.

Look #1: Office Chic
Start by priming your eyelids with the Smashbox Photofinish Lid Primer (US$20.00) that comes with the kit (also sold separately). The eyelid primer has a nude tint that will help cancel out any redness and make sure your eyeshadow adheres. Apply shade #5 (a matte bone, beige colour) on your brow bone right below your eyebrows.

Using a flat eyeshadow brush, pat shade #8 (a gunmetal colour) on your crease and blend out with a blending brush. Smudge eyeliner in shade #18 (navy blue) along your upper and lower lash line for some subtle definition. Coat your upper lash line with your favorite mascara, swipe on your favorite lip-gloss and you’re ready to go to work! How simple was that?

Look #2: Holiday Dinner

Before you head out for your holiday dinner after work, try these few simple steps to add a bit of glam to your entire look. Apply shade #10 (gold) in the inner crease and blend. Darken your outer crease and lower lash line with shade # 11 (dark brown with a shimmer). Line your eyes with eyeliner in shade #17 (black), extending slightly to create a cat eye effect. Finish off the look with a nude lip-gloss.

Look #3: Holiday Party

Up your look a notch in one simple step (yep, you heard right, just one step)! Take an eye glitter, we used MAC’s Glitter in Antique Reflects Gold (C$25.00) for this step and pat it on the back of your hand to pack the product and lightly pat the glitter onto your eyelids. This instantly transforms your eyeshadow and gives your eye a little somethin’ somethin’. If you want to, you can add extra coats of mascara to give it more drama.

Hummmm....an example for a person who has "hooded eyelid" like myself.....thanks Mandy these are some really great tips. Yes, you look great Michelle! It's hard to do shadow on a hooded eye and make it look great without looking like someone just gave you a black eye! Good job here!

I love the header photo, so cute and totally could be a holiday makeup ad!

I think the glitter is actually very subtle in photos but looks really holiday-esque in real life. It's not gaudy either since the glitter is very fine.

This is GREAT!!!! Im always looking for tips on how to do a good smoky eye, im still learning!! Ive never worn a ton of makeup so to try and do a bit 'more'' of a look requires quite skill for me! lol My favourite so far has been Almay's Intense Eye Colour Palette designed for your colour of eyes. The tones really do bring out your eyes and make them POP!

One of my all time fav palettes is the Sephora Collection Endless Colour Blockbuster (http://www.chickadvisor.com/item/sephora-collection-endless-color-blockbuster/). It has absolutely every eye and lip colour you could ask for! I also love the Urban Decay Naked Palette (http://www.chickadvisor.com/item/urban-decay-naked-palette/?page=2#reviews). The colours in that palette are just so smooth and creamy, and they're the "in between" shades that I always look for. Like the shade you get when you mix pink and cream and gold or a steely blue mixed with gray, or gold mixed with brown... you know, all the 'in between' shades :-)

Michelle you look gorgeous!! I especially love the office look. That shade of eyeshadow really brings out your beautiful eyes! Mandy you are one talented makeup artist :-)
