My 6 yo loves this toy

My 6 year old daughter received this as a gift for Christmas. She loves it! It comes with so many items to play while coding. She loves discovering new things to program Botley to do. Endless fun and she is learning while playing.

    Great for fostering creativity

Botley is very cute and simple to operate. This is a great toy to help with learning problem-solving and beginning coding. My 5 year old daughter has been having a ton of fun with Botley. We began using the line follow feature, and then started having Botley maneuver obstacles using code. It took some trial and error for my daughter to figure out the best way to program Botley to get through the course we set up, but once she did she was so excited and proud of herself.

Makes STEM learning tons of fun for my little guy.

Ever since my little guy was able to pick something up he's had a fascination with figuring out how it works. From his toy cars to the push button pictures and sounds play desk he has. At 3.5 yrs old he can navigate his way on a tablet to play his learning games and sing-alongs. When I saw Learning Resources Botley the Coding Robot I figured why not give it a shot and challenge him more. He for the most part just drives it around, but fully understands that Botley will follow a black line and that I (for a short time I'm sure) currently can program him to do thing he or I choose. He is having a blast and continues to learn different ways to move and control him, not realizing yet that he is beginning to code. If you have a brilliant child like mine and/or a little guy or girl that loves to figure things out, this is one of the best ways I have found to challenge him, let him learn on his own by trial and error, and play with him. Botley is a must for you and your family. All the while my son is always enjoying himself and even if Botley doesn't do what he intended he has already gained the knowledge to try again and don't give up. Huge thumbs up to Botley, the amazing little interactive machine.

Botley - Screen free way to teach coding in a fun way

The botley is a "coding" robot presenting a screen free option to learn coding.
I have invested in a number of "Smart Toys" ,quite a few of which claim to teach coding. However most of them need an App, and hence a phone/tablet to code. The result? Kids end up closing the app and then going onto watch videos/play other games. Defeats the purpose really.

However the Botley does resolve the issue. It comes with a remote, which lets you provide a series of commands which are then transmitted to the botley.

Although it looks like a r/c toy, its not, in that you are not sending real time commands. You are sending stored commands. The remote also allows for teaching of loop command(via a loop button) and an if-then statement (via the obstacle feature). These are the basic commands in any programming language and hence teaches the child the basics of programming without them realizing it. The additional pieces enable you to create a track/ obstacle course and design new challenges for the kid thus developing problem solving abilities. There is also a follow mode where Botley will follow a drawn black line which is a nice to have feature.

The price seems to be on the higher side, for a toy where there will be no ongoing updates provided via an app or OTA firmware updates. However it is a perfect toy to provide the basics of coding without the need of a screen.
